Background information about
the online action against highly hazardous pesticides

Cover PAN-Recherche The multinational chemical companies BASF, Bayer, and Syngenta control nearly half of the world pesticide market. Because of their huge distribution systems, these companies have a great deal of influence on how and with what pesticides food crops are produced. And because independent extensions services are rare, pesticide companies often advise farmers on the local level and promote their products in the process.

But many of their pesticides are highly hazardous. Each of these three companies market more than fifty highly hazardous pesticides that endanger and harm people and the environment worldwide. These include pesticides that have highly toxic acute effects or that are suspected of being toxic for reproduction, mutagenic, or carcinogenic. This has been shown in an international investigation conducted by PAN Germany.
